WICE's Lifestyles program offers a diverse range of activities to cater to varied interests. Whether you're looking to engage your mind with games like mahjong and bridge, explore hands-on crafts such as knitting, stimulate your palate with wine and cheese tastings, or focus on physical wellness through yoga and Pilates, there's something for everyone. Beyond the activities themselves, one of the underlying joys of this program is the chance it provides to meet new people and forge lasting friendships. The gatherings serve as a nexus for members to connect, share experiences, and bond over shared passions and interests.

We recognize the importance of both traditional activities and contemporary interests. That's why you'll find offerings like the French game of pétanque alongside modern fitness routines. The program is flexible, adapting to the evolving interests of our members by introducing new classes and events while maintaining established mainstays.

With the Lifestyles program, WICE aims not only to provide members with opportunities to relax and learn new skills but also to foster a vibrant community where connections are made, and friendships flourish.

You can be kept abreast of this by subscribing to our newsletter, WICE Direct, following our FaceBook page, or by simply keeping an eye on this page.

The weather is back, and so is pétanque!

In the same way that—to some people—lobster is just an excuse to eat melted butter, WICE's afternoon pétanque games can be thought of as an excuse to hang out in a charming locale and have fun with other WICE members.

We play at Place Dauphine (at the western end of Île de la Cité) on the 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:30 pm until the last person decides to leave. A game usually takes about an hour, and generally everyone wanders over to one of the nearby cafés afterwards for beverages and a chat.

WICE provides four pétanque sets, and—if you're new—instructions on how to play.

The session is free for WICE members, but registration is required, and the registration limit is eight people. If the session is full, please join the waiting list so that we can better plan future sessions.

Join us on the summer solstice for a one-hour classic Vinyasa yoga class, in English, designed for beginners and all levels. Held in the welcoming, light-filled studio at The Space in the 12th arrondissement, this class offers a mindful, energizing flow that links breath with movement.

Vinyasa connects traditional yoga asanas (postures) in a harmonious sequence of movement and breath, creating a fluid, meditative experience. This style of yoga is both dynamic and gentle, emphasizing active meditation while building strength, flexibility, balance, and focus, and ending with a calming relaxation.

The studio offers yoga mats, blocks, and all necessary props, so all you need to bring is comfortable clothing and a water bottle. A changing room with hooks and cubbies is available on site.

We will end the practice with a post-class coffee or juice at a neighborhood cafe, Nomade, for those who can join.

Meet your teacher: Victoria Shah has trained with The Life Centre/ YogaCampus - one of the leading yoga schools in the UK. Victoria weaves her anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and neuroscience knowledge into her intelligently sequenced classes . She encourages her students to look at and listen to their bodies’ needs through the power of their breath. Victoria provides clear, supportive guidance throughout. Whether you're just starting out or returning to your practice, you'll find a space to move, breathe, and reconnect.

Discover the ancient art of Qi-Gong, a gentle yet powerful practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts. With a history spanning over 4,000 years, Qi-Gong (pronounced “chee-gong”) combines slow, mindful movements, controlled breathing, and focused intention to cultivate and balance the body’s vital energy, or “qi.”

In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll be introduced to foundational postures, flowing sequences, and breathing techniques designed to improve flexibility, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to move with awareness and an open mind. Expect a calm, welcoming atmosphere.

Good to know: this practice will take place outdoors at Martin Luther King Park (17th arrondissement). In case of rain, the session will be cancelled and you will be credited for the next session in this series. You should wear light, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, as well as comfortable shoes. There is no need for a mat. Qi-Gong is not a strenuous workout, but try not to eat a heavy meal within an hour of practice. Bring a water bottle.

Your instructor will be Emanuelle Garcia, who has studied Qi Gong for over 15 years as well as having practiced JKA Karate for more than 20 years. Emmanuelle is a French CQP-certified instructor. In her teaching, Emanuelle blends the discipline of martial arts with the fluidity and energy of Qi-Gong. This results in classes that are both dynamic and accessible to everyone. She has studied with two Qi-Gong masters whose teachings she carries forward as she continues to train during workshops and retreats.

Please note: although Emanuelle can speak some English, this class will be an immersive French experience. Come practice your language skills while you exercise !

Imperfect Yoga founder Beth Jervis is partnering with WICE to offer a donation-based yoga class in English. The class will be a mix of dynamic (Vinyasa) and passive (Yin) practices, with a bit of breathwork thrown in. It will last around 90 minutes. There will be options to take it up or down a notch and all levels are welcome to join. Afterwards there will be a picnic brunch together, so don't forget to bring your picnic! If for any reason you do forget (or don't find the time to pull that together), there are kiosques in the garden where you can get snack food, so no pressure.

At brunch time, tour guide Hugo from 'Dans Les Pas' tours will meet you. After brunch, Hugo will take those who wish on a guided historical tour regarding the life of Victor Hugo. The tour lasts around 2 to 2.5 hours and will begin at the Jardins Luxembourg and wind its way through the Left Bank, before crossing the Seine to end at the Hotel de Ville. The organisers estimate that the tour should finish between 3:30 and 4:30pm (depending on departure time). There is a suggested 20 donation for the tour, but it is not mandatory.

You should bring a yoga mat, water, and your picnic lunch. Wear loose/exercise-friendly clothing.

If there are no spaces available, please put yourself on the waitlist, and we will follow up with Imperfect Yoga to reserve more spaces.

Beth Jervis has taught yoga since 2023 after completing her 200 hour Ashtanga/Vinyasa yoga teacher training, which she followed up with a 100 hour training in Yin yoga. She prefers to keep groups small and classes on the longer side to allow for a proper warm up, a bit of breathing, and proper relaxation.

Get out of central Paris and explore the newest of the Grandes Routes, the network of hiking trails that criss-cross Western Europe. GR 75, the newest of the Routes, is a 51 km route developed in preparation for the 2024 Olympics. Tracing the perimeter of Paris as it winds through parks and neighborhoods of the outer arrondissements, GR 75 highlights the parts of Paris most tourists and even some Parisians never visit. This is an urban walk/hike, so this is not strictly speaking a historical walk, but a time to enjoy the environment of this lovely city.

Join Yana Valentinova (WICE Photography) and Peter Dull (WICE Hiking) as we explore the section of the GR 75 running from Port de Bercy to Porte de Vanves. Along the way, we will explore thearchitectually interesting 13th Arrondissement, from the Bibliothèque François Mitterand, to Olympiades, and on to the Cité Universitaire and a funky section of the Petite Ceinture. This fun walk will include tips from Yana about composing photos with your phone as we explore this visually fascinating area outside of Central Paris.

Good to know: this walk will probably take about 3-4 hours with a break for lunch and covers approximately 9 miles of length. You will need comfortable shoes and water. There are some steep sets of stairs, but this is not generally a challenging walk.
