Jan Olsson’s etching press is located at La Ruche, a picturesque artist’s colony founded in 1902 near Montparnasse. Join us and experience this historic site while learning to make monotype prints.

Monotypes are unique and beloved by contemporary artists for their spontaneity and rich textural beauty. Degas used them as studies for his pastels. Line drawing, stenciling, painting, and collage, both in color and black and white, all come into play with this fabulously freeing printmaking technique.

Instructor: Jan Olsson installed her etching press, “The Queen Bee”, at La Ruche in 1994. Since then she has exhibited etchings, collographs, monotypes and artists' books created in her studio located on the ground floor of “La Rotonde”, a building designed by the Eiffel Studios that is situated at the center of a walled garden within a community of working artists. You may see reproductions of Jan’s prints on her website: http://janolssonart.com and photographs of La Ruche at http://www.laruche-montparnasse.com/
