Introducing the series Lessons from the Masters.

What could be better than an afternoon of painting in the spacious studio of a working artist and long-time resident of Paris who is also an inspiring teacher?

Assignments will send you to study from the city’s wealth of museum collections and traveling shows. You’ll learn as artists have always learned, by studying the works of other painters and by closely observing your surroundings as you strike out on your own.Painting at WICE

This autumn’s L’impressionisme et La Mode: 1860-1880  at the Musée d’Orsay will inspire a study of color and composition from paintings like Degas’ “Chez le Modiste” and from Japanese prints like those of Hiroshige, on exhibit at the Pinacothque /Madeleine from October 2012 through March 2013, that inspired them.

Beginners to painting will receive step-by-step instructions in setting up a palette and mixing colors while they study from one of the impressionist painters. Those with prior experience in painting will be encouraged to apply their study of an impressionist composition to the completion of an original painting by the end of the session.

Both beginners and practiced painters are welcome.
