Course Description:
The ninth arrondissement is not only famous for the Garnier Opera house.  The area called La Nouvelle Athènes developed in the 1820s was the home of many artists, writers, actors, and courtesans of the Romantic and Impressionist periods.  Our walk will take us from the impressive Trinité church to tree-shaded cottages and elegant townhouses, and even an anglo-French square where Chopin and George Sand once lived.  We’ll see where the famous Grand Guignol and the cabaret Le Chat Noir were and find out where the Pigalle quarter got its name.

Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for the weather. Those who wish may join us for lunch after the tour.

Instructor: Lee Hubert, B.A. Boston University, French and English, is a longtime resident of Paris.
