Would you like to discover the famous Parisian private mansions or so-called “hôtels particuliers” such as Sens, Biron, Lambert or Crillon? From the medieval times to the modern period, we will explore the characteristics of these typical mansions, built between courtyard and garden, and point at their evolution through the centuries. You will also learn how the development of French architecture reflected social and political realities, thus allowing the mansions themselves to provide us with an insight into the lives of Paris’ more privileged citizens. Do not miss this amazing and instructive lecture!

Catherine ESTIVALEZES has been a lecturer with WICE for several years: she guided walking tours in Paris districts, organized visits to museums, held on site lectures at WICE. She has a PhD in American and British history and literature, a professional degree in Art and History. She also teaches in English to future professional guides. She communicates her passion for art and culture in a simple expressive way.

This course will resume online only, this is due to changes in current governmental guidelines for in person events. Details on joining the course via Zoom will be emailed to you before the start of the class. If you would like to test out your internet connection from a computer device before the start of the class you can click on the computer icon above or here.
