Lockdown Talks - “FAKE NEWS”— THEN AND NOW! WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR DEMOCRACY?

How do we know what information to trust?  What is “fake news” – and what isn’t?

The question has been actively trumpeted, (no pun intended) in our time, but it is hardly a modern-day phenomenon.  It created a great deal of havoc in the last century –at another moment of expanding globalization and revolutionary technology.

Lee Huebner, author of The Fake News Panic of a Century Ago: The Discovery of Propaganda and the Coercion of Consent rounds up for WICE the many implications of this phenomenon.

Lee Huebner was CEO and Publisher of the International Herald Tribune in Paris from 1979 to 1993.  He has also taught at Northwestern University (1994-2006) and is now Professor of Media and Public Affairs at the George Washington University.

The meeting will take place using the Zoom video conferencing tool.
