American Pastoral is one of Philip Roth’s most powerful novels.  It is an elegy for the American century's promises of prosperity, civic order, and domestic bliss; yet it retains a universal resonance.  It is a richly textured moving, generous, book, boasting a deep compassion for its characters.  Philip Roth won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1997 for American Pastoral.



Pastorale américaine est considérée comme l'un des chefs-d’oeuvres de Philippe Roth.  Ce roman énorme est une élégie au 'siècle américain,' à ses rêves de prospérité, du 'bon citoyen' et du bonheur au foyer ; pourtant le thématique va bien au-delà de la seule Amérique et résonne de manière universelle par la complexité de ses émotions, sa générosité humaine et la sympathie avec lequel Roth traite ses personnages.  L'oeuvre a été récompensée par le prix Pulitzer en 1997.
