Through Black Spruce is a haunting tale of love, identity and loss narrated by former bush pilot and Cree native Will Bird and his niece Annie. The story backtracks to tell of Will's fight to keep his bush-country Indian life alive and protected while he suppresses painful childhood memories. Canadian novelist and short-story writer Joseph Boyden was awarded Canada's top literary award the Scotiabank Giller Prize in 2008 for Through Black Spruce.
