Located in the 5th arrondissement, the church and monastery of Val de Grâce were built in the 17th century thanks to the generosity of Queen Anne of Austria, mother of King Louis XIV.

Designed by François Mansart and Jacques Lemercier, the church is one of the most perfect examples of Baroque architecture.

Since the Revolution, the monastery has been transformed into a military hospital. The Army Medical Service museum presents the history of the French military medical services dedicated to prevention, teaching and research in war surgery and  pharmacology.

Come and discover the Val de Grâce and its museum with our guide, Catherine Estivalezes.

About the instructor: Holding a PhD in British and American Studies from the Sorbonne, Catherine Estivalezes has been involved for many years in a foundation for promoting contemporary art, before getting back to her Art History studies.
