Paris When It Flickers

Part I

Seminar by Vincent Fournois

This two part seminar will unravel the role Paris has played in cinema from the dawn of the motion picture industry till today. This first seminar, of the two-part series, will begin with a review of the role Paris played in politics and the arts at the time Cinema was born. We will then analyze the overwhelming role The City of Lights has had in the settings of French films and why, illustrated with movie clips. After discussing diverse international productions, we will wrap up the seminar with some facts and figures on the unique place of cinema in the cultural life of the city.

Instructor:  Vincent Fournols is a Parisian born and raised movie buff. Since childhood, he has seen, registered and analyzed about 4000 different films.  For the past couple of years, he has lectured several times at the SKEMA business school on changing the perspective of looking at movies.

For the past twenty years, he has worked in Corporate Banking IT. He travels extensively, which affords him the opportunity to catch up on local films.
