Languages

WICE offers French and English instruction classes plus French, English, and German guided discussions.  Language courses are offered from October to June except during Christmas school holidays and official public holidays.  WICE also offers a French Summer Immersion course in July.  Please click here for more details.

Pre-evaluation

Before enrolling for a language-learning course for the first time, please complete our online Placement Evaluation. It will collect your responses and display your final score sending a notice to Languages Dept. This evaluation will help you to choose the right course level. Should you have questions thereafter, or are unsure which course to take, please email us at languages@wice-paris.org.

English Placement Test      French Placement Test

·    Level 1: No or few notions of the language.

·    Level 2: Elementary knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, capable of making simple sentences with errors, hesitation and limited vocabulary.

·  Level 3: Capable of having a conversation on familiar topics and routine situations, with some errors. Ability to deal with simple, straightforward information.

·   Level 4: Capable of having a near fluent conversation on a wide range of topics. Strong vocabulary with few mistakes.

    This English course is for people with prior beginner knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary. It aims to help participants refresh and acquire additional communication skills in English. The course will reinforce your existing skills and facilitate your progression in areas of English grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening. Various topics and readings will be used to develop your oral and written communication skills.

    About the Instructor: Louise Denyer is a native English speaker. She is a qualified English solicitor and an experienced teacher holding a Certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults (CTEFLA). For the past 20 years, she has been teaching Business, Legal and General English. Louise also coaches actors and teaches theatre in English to French children.

    This English course is for people with an advanced intermediate knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary or higher.

    Participants will strengthen their knowledge in English grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening building upon existing skills. Emphasis will be given to developing conversational skills and building confidence in various types of interactions. A variety of topics and readings will be used to develop oral and written communication skills.

    This 90-minute course will be held in English once a week to maximize learner exposure to and participation in the language.

    About the Instructor: Sage Morghan holds a Masters in ESL (English as a Second Language) Education as well as a second Masters and PhD in French Studies with a specialty in French cinema. She has over 15 years of experience teaching French and English to students of various ages.

    This German Guided Discussion Group is open to people with a strong intermediate or advanced level of German. Our group leaders suggest interesting topics and readings prior to each group discussion. If you enjoy reading, speaking, presenting, and engaging in diverse topic-centered discussions, this group is for you. In addition, to learning and developing through guided discussions with other participants, you will also have the opportunity to get personalized constructive feedback. The German Guided Discussion group speaks only in German for 90 minutes which gives participants an excellent space to practice.

    Ce Groupe de Discussion Guidée Allemand est ouvert aux personnes qui parlent allemand presque couramment (niveaux intermédiaire-avancé ou avancé).  Nos animateurs proposent des sujets intéressants et des textes avant chaque groupe. Si vous appréciez la lecture, la communication, la présentation et la participation à des discussions diverses, ce groupe est pour vous. En plus, d’apprendre et se développer à travers des discussions guidées avec d'autres participants, vous aurez également la possibilité d'obtenir des commentaires constructifs et personnalisés. Ce groupe de discussion guidée est un excellent endroit pour vous réunir avec d’autres enthousiastes de la langue allemande. Le groupe ne parle qu’allemand pendant 1,5 heure.

    Please note that this program is geared for learners new to French with little or no prior knowledge. Meeting twice a week for 90-minutes, this course will be held mostly in French to maximize learner exposure to the target language during the initial stages of the French language acquisition process.

    About the Instructor: Audrey Charmont has a Masters in Marketing and Communications as well as a DAEFLE (French as a Foreign Language). She has French teaching experience in France and abroad. For the past eleven years, she has built a combined business.

    Spark your child’s creativity and ignite their confidence during a special one week drama camp in English lead by a British acting professional and experienced English teacher.
     
    Perfect for fully bilingual children or those who wish to improve their English speaking skills while having fun.  The camp is limited to a small group of children from age 8 to 12 who will spend the week developing their acting and language skills working on theater and film scenes, improvisation, physical theater, character studies, and body and voice techniques.
     
    The camp will run Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm with a break for a supervised lunch period.  (Lunch is not provided – students must bring their own lunch).

    On Friday afternoon the group will demonstrate their talents by putting on a short performance for parents.
