The Basilica of Saint Denis is a large medieval abbey church of unique historical and architectural importance. Its choir, completed in 1144, is considered to be the first Gothic church.

Built on the grave of Saint-Denis, who was beheaded in the 3rd century, the abbey, where the kinds of France and their families were buried for centuries, is often referred to as the “royal necropolis of France.”

The basilica is a museum of sculptures with its magnificent recumbent statues which adorn the royal tombs.

Come and discover this jewel of gothic art.
