Palaces and private mansions are part of the cultural heritage of Paris. Many of them have survived throughout the Ages despite the major transformations which occurred in the capital. It has been said that 450 private mansions still exist in Paris. Some mansions have been turned into museums, others are private properties, or in French Cultural Institutions or Foreign Embassies.

We will present the historical background of these mansions built between courtyard and garden, their architectural style and internal decoration according to the period when they were built. We will illustrate our presentation with different examples reflecting their particularities.
