Fitzgerald, Hemingway and Left Bank Writers

Walk the old streets of Montparnasse and St Germain, see the famous cafés and bars where writers and artists congregated in the 1920s, and stroll in the attractive Luxembourg Gardens. The tour will include where Hemingway lived in rue Ferou, Scott Fitzgerald’s apartment on rue de Vaugirard, and Gertrude Stein’s home in Montparnasse. We will walk across the Luxembourg gardens, where Hemingway visited the Luxembourg gallery of modern art, and Gertrude Stein walked her dog. We will also show you where Sylvia Beach had her celebrated bookshop: Shakespeare and Company, a meeting place for both French and expatriate writers. It was Sylvia Beach who encouraged the writers who made Paris the center of creative excellence of the day and first published James Joyce’s ground breaking novel Ulysses. You will hear some amusing and revealing anecdotes about this bohemian community.

This walk is a part of Paris Writers’ Workshop. It is only open to those already enrolled in a PWW master class. For more information about PWW, please visit: wice-paris.org/pariswritersworkshop.
