This spring the Musée Rodin in Paris is presenting an extraordinary
exhibition of 300 drawings of Rodin's models
dated from 1890 to 1917 by the great sculptor. Quoting from the museum’s introduction to the exhibition: “Rodin’s freedom in drawing contributed to opening an immense space for the artists of the 20th century. The true mission of the exhibition is to make the viewer sense this liberty.”
This Spring series of 5 Life Drawing sessions begins with a look at Rodin's pencil, pen, and watercolor drawings featured in the
Musée Rodin Exhibition
.
One might also visit
Danser sa Vie
at the Pompidou Center to see how Emiil Nolde and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner expressed the moving figure in painting!
(Visits to both shows are recommended but not required). Working from a live model, participants will learn how to capture movement through the use of line and color. Watercolor, gouache, graphite pencil, wax crayons and colored markers will be our chosen media. A link to a supply list will be sent to you when you register.
Beginners and more experienced students are welcome. Jan’s Life Drawing Studio is always warm and convivial yet hard working. With an emphasis on practice, acknowledging that in order to learn and progress in any creative endeavor one must take risks and experiment with new tools and new methods. Jan both encourages and challenges her students to surpass their limits and nurture their creativity. A sequel to this course follows in May under the title “Life Drawing Studio: Degas and the Nude.”
