Join us for a special visit to Sainte-Chapelle, a Gothic marvel if ever there was one. Originally built by Saint Louis (Louis IX) to house the Crown of Thorns, it is an exquisite example of radiating Gothic. Its impact in 1239 was immediate. The 50-foot high great windows seemed to defy gravity, so little masonry there was. The 1134 scenes depicted in the outstanding stained glass windows, created by the same craftsmen who worked on the cathedral of Chartres, tell the story of the passion of Christ. The windows pick up even the faintest ray of sunshine to give you the impression of being inside a magnificent jewel box.
