If this is a site you have yet to discover in Paris, you will be amazed to find such an extensive variety of plants, trees, statues and structures spanning four centuries in a single location. Created in 1626 for Louis XIII, this medicinal garden soon became a botanical school and then a public garden.
The spectacular viewpoint from the Place Valhubert encompasses the greenhouses, the Gallery of Evolution and flowerbeds containing over 4000 plants. In the western half of the garden there is a zoo created in 1793 with animals confiscated from Versailles. The newly restored Grand Aviary, home to over 500 birds, is one of the prettiest in Europe. The Alpine Garden has an amazing microclimate with over 2000 mountain plants from around the world. A rose garden and iris collection complete this living encyclopedia of the natural world.
Instructor: Amy Kupec-Larue, a self-taught florist and gardener, shares her passion for plants as a tour guide for the City of Paris Parks Department and as a florist.
