This review of famous French novels, poetry and theatre over three centuries of great writing continues in May and June. We will be looking at individual works in translation, using excerpts for discussion in class.
Part II in May deals with Nineteenth-Century Romanticism and Realism from the Revolution to the Belle Epoque. Part III in June concentrates on Intellectual Modernism and famous 20th century French writers.
No need to wonder any longer about Balzac, Sand, Zola, Colette or even Jean Paul Sartre. Each century will come alive in a new and fascinating way through the literature of its period.
Instructor: Gretel Furner, MA German and French literature, Oxford, PhD German Literature, U. of Saarbruecken; previously taught at George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
