Last year, our senses surrendered to the elegance of Burgundy wines. We came away from that first overview tasting with a better understanding of why this region attracts true wine lovers. Now, it’s time to dedicate more quality time to the temperamental, but brilliant, pinot noir grape. In this evening’s tasting, we’ll examine the wines from the northern part of the legendary Côte d’Or -- the Côte de Nuits. This region is home to most of Burgundy’s great reds -- Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, and Nuits-St.-Georges. Sometimes called velvet hammers, these wines are complex, graceful, powerful, and delicate … and not to be missed. They take care and attention in growing … and they deserve care and attention in a dedicated tasting. Beware. They might become a lifelong obsession.
