From medieval towers to Renaissance mansions to neo-classical facades, we will explore the back streets of this arrondissement to see where Paris history happened.  Where was the first café?  Where did the Revolutionaries feverishly plan their revolt?  Where did the Comédie Française perform its plays?  Where was the first opera performed?  And what about the Hotel de Nesle?  Where was it and what happened there?  Where did Queen Margot have a mansion and garden?  Where did Picasso paint “Guernica”?  All this and more in what, I hope, you will find an interesting and informative walk. 

Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for the weather.  Those who wish may join us for lunch after the tour.

Instructor: Lee Hubert, B.A. Boston University, French and English, is a longtime resident of Paris.
