This is the first exhibition to cover every stage of Berenice ABBOTT’s career, featuring over 140 vintage prints by this American photographer. In the Museum of Jeu de Paume, the selection of portraits, architectural photographs and scientific plates shows the many facets of her work, all too often reduced to a handful of familiar images.

You will discover the photographs of portraits she made when she came to Paris in the 1920s: portraits of Eugène Atget, Marcel Duchamp, James Joyce, Man Ray, Jean Cocteau, Max Ernst.

There is also a substantial selection of images from her “Changing New York project” (1935-1939), financed by the Works Progress Administration, for which she is best known.

Finally, you will see a set of aesthetic and educational photographs illustrating the principles of mechanics and optics for the MIT.

Join our guide, provided by the Galerie Jeu de Paume, to visit this first French retrospective of Berenice Abbott and celebrate the diversity and unity of her work.
