From its beginning in Vincennes in 1740 and in Sèvres in 1756, the Manufacture de Sèvres has been producing and distributing artistic works in ceramic in a tradition of prestige which belongs to cultural history of France. This manufacture thrives on the excellence of its materials, which are made in situ, an ancestral savoir-faire preserved down through the centuries, and a taste for modernity. Over the years, artists and designers such as Boucher, Rodin, Arp, Calder and more recently Louise Bourgeois, Pierre Soulages have all enriched Sèvres’ repertoire of shapes and decors. Some 200 agents including 130 ceramicists are based today in 27 workshops, and produce several thousand pieces every year.

Come and visit this manufacture which represents the excellence of the ceramic craft and creation in France. You will discover this unique savoir-faire by visiting two workshops specialized in production and decoration.

Instructor: provided by the museum.
